CULT OBJECTS
Cult Objects is celebrating their first LP release, Amulet! This new record sees the Philadelphia band move out of the basement and onto the dance floor. While still taking their emotionally raw blend of post-punk and noise rock with them, they added some gothy dance floor dissonance, haunting vocals, and grooving bass lines. They entered the studio to make a scrappy post punk record from 1982 that, if played next to ESG or Bush Tetras, would sound like they were recorded in the same studio weeks apart. It’s the sound of dancing at the end of the world.
NYMPHO
Nympho is a five-piece cherry-scented poppers punk band from Philly. Equal parts bratty and brilliant, they’re the sonic equivalent of making out behind a 7-Eleven while the world burns.
Stuck between a good time and a really good time, Nympho delivers high-energy, whip-smart punk that’s as seductive as it is unhinged. Think: trash TV raised them, and now they’re raising hell on all fours, talking shit, and sounding like “normal music, just sped up.”
Their debut Honk If You’re Horny is loud, lusty, and unapologetically horny.
Featuring members of Empath and Perfect Pussy, Nympho is a gloriously messy cocktail of DIY pedigree and glittery chaos.
CHANCERS
Will McAndrew’s “Chancers” is a an anthithetical swipe at bedroom rock. It’s the sort of 4 track recording you always think you’re going to make when you excitedly find that dusty Tascam porta 7 at the Savlation Army except yours sounds like a cement mixer driving on glass and Will’s sounds like if The Tindersticks heard Teenage Fanclub, or if the Silver Jews decided on the Jesus and Mary Chain guitar sound. This is the kind of musical crossroads anyone could be happy about running a red light through. Fuzzed out, fun, introversion with enough chops and swagger to keep the drinks pouring all night and the know how to make you run the program on repeat.
