MAGNOLIA & JOHNSON ELECTRIC CO.

Magnolia Electric Co. Teams Up with Will Johnson as Magnolia and Johnson Electric Co. for December and April Southeast and East Coast tours.
Magnolia and Johnson Electric Co. is a collaboration between Jason Molina’s Magnolia Electric Co. bandmates and Molina’s friend and collaborator, Will Johnson.  Will Johnson is a songwriter in Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel, and a member of the 400 Unit with Jason Isbell. Johnson released a new solo album, Diamond City, in 2025, and was also part of the 2009 collaboration Molina and Johnson, a record for which a tour was canceled due to Molina’s struggles with alcohol.
In September 2025, Magnolia and Johnson Electric Co. released a three song EP on Keeled Scales which features new arrangements and studio recordings of two songs from the Molina and Johnson record – “Wooden Heart” and “Twenty Cycles to the Ground” – and a studio version of the Magnolia classic “The Big Beast,” which, previously, was only ever captured live.
The band played four capacity shows in Texas in September 2025 to celebrate the release of the record and pay tribute to their work with Molina. The tour continues on in some of Molina’s and Magnolia’s favorite cities in the Southeast in December, going through Charlottesville, VA, Asheville, NC (current home of Magnolia’s bass player, Pete Schreiner), and Carrboro, NC, and then moves to the East Coast in April with stops in Philadelphia, PA (current home of Magnolia’s drummer, Mark Rice, and lap steel player, Mike “Slo-Mo” Brenner), Washington, D.C., Amherst, MA, and Brooklyn, NY.
Expect multiple sets and a solemn yet celebratory evening in memory of Jason Molina — their bandmate, collaborator, and friend.
