MIDIRON BLAST SHAFT (REUNION 1997-2002)
Great comedians will talk about starting their sets with their most difficult material, pushing the audience into opposition, with the intention of winning them over. If you ever saw Midiron Blast Shaft, you might’ve lightly chuckled to yourself as you watched four men in Daisy Dukes with blonde wigs tuning their guitars, before muttering to yourself, “What is this bullshit?” Quickly after the first song however, the realization hit that these guys are laughing at themselves, the outfits an expression of their extreme competency, daring the audience to confront their expectations. Midiron Blast Shaft don’t want to play against the JV team; their only competition is themselves.
The band emerged in 1997 from greater Philadelphia, bringing their own blend of rock & post-hardcore combined with a live show that left audiences blown away by theatrics and musicality. Their sound appealed to both the margins and the mainstream of alternative music fans and broadcast its message through lyrics equally politically charged and absurd.
Midiron’s musical growth rate was faster than a spoiler-topped minivan. After releasing a 4-song demo tape and 7” record in 1998, local independent shop Siren Records released the band’s first full length, “Igneous Assertions”, in 1999. That album brought their first national tour, leading them through Baltimore to Reptilian Records.
Midiron Blast Shaft’s second album, “Starts Fires in Your Pants” was released on Reptilian in 2000 and signified a leap musically, folding in metal-leaning riffs & dissonance, while developing their signature woven guitar interplay. The songs were succinct, aggressive, and pounding.
As the band continued to tour they shared the stage with the likes of Lungfish, Trans Am, Strike Anywhere, Oxes, Arab on Radar, and The Dwarves, among others before disbanding in 2002.
Now in 2026, Midiron Blast Shaft have re-formed and resurrected their most focused and ferocious material that had previously only been experienced live. These 7 lost tracks are joined by a brand new one on an all new full-length release with Reptilian Records titled “Finish The Job”
Midiron will mount & ride their first live show in over 20 years this fall.
