Channls doesn’t need a singer to tell you how to feel. The songs do that on their own. One minute you’re in your head staring at the ceiling, the next you’re ready to throw a chair through it. It’s the kind of music that hits you where words usually fail.
Formed in 2023 by Jay Yachetta and Steven Rosplock—veterans of progressive outfit Phantasm—Channls is completed by two fixtures of the Philly music underground: bassist Vini King (In the Presence of Wolves) and guitarist Jace Miller (Alright Junior). In a move that borders on poetic irony, the band boasts three frontmen in a project where vocals are conspicuously absent. For Channls, silence isn’t an omission—it’s liberation. “I’ve always been able to express a feeling more clearly through my guitar than having to translate it into words. ” explains Rosplock, whose background in film composition bleeds into the group’s cinematic arrangements.
Rooted in post-rock but unafraid of distortion-drenched aggression, Channls lives in the liminal space between beauty and brutality. Think Russian Circles with the brashness of The Jesus Lizard, or Tool and boiled down to their rawest musical nerve. This is not post-rock to fall asleep to. This is a score for whatever storm you’re weathering.
Channls’ debut EP is slated for release in 2025, and it promises to be a visceral offering for those who like their ambiance with a side of existential catharsis.
