KULFIGIRLS
KulfiGirls are a Philly-based rock band fronted by lead vocalist Abi Natesh who uses the South Indian Saraswati veena to present a novel “carnatic rock” sound, inspired by diverse genres of pop and rock. In November, they released a music video for their single “Bite”. Their debut album “Divinity” will be released in Feb 2025.
KELSEY CORK & THE SWIGS
Self-described as Rock n Roll Kool-Aid, Kelsey Cork and the Swigs takes your favorite music and mixes it with your best friend’s favorite music to make a tasty punk-blues-psychedelic-garage rock cocktail, acquiring an irrefutable reputation for an energetic live show that you can’t help but dance to. Mastered by
Bill Skibbe of Third Man Mastering (The Kills, Jack White), their 2023 release
Lollygagger harnesses this rock n roll electricity as recorded live in Kelsey’s home by
Matt Schenk of Powercycle Productions (Otherworld, Ruby the Hatchet) and captured by WXPN in
Lollygaggers on South Broad, a docu-series depicting the unique making of this album. No strangers to basements or big stages, the band captivated packed audiences in 2023-2024 with Thelma & the Sleaze at Kung Fu Necktie and at the legendary Philly DIY venue First Unitarian Church with Frankie & The Witch Fingers. Their performances are a rallying cry united by a raw anti-perfectionism approach: they shout to the world SHOW ME YOUR TRASH, and you’ll want to answer their call by drinking a citywide, throwing a house party, and dismantling the oligarchy.
KIKASHIMA
Featured on WXPN’s Key Studio Sessions, Kikashima is the band and moniker of Mexican-Japanese-Californian singer/songwriter, Carissa Matsushima. Now based in Philadelphia, Kikashima is made up of equal parts legacy and rebellion. They are a sensuous power trio that boasts heart-breaking melodies, down-to-earth lyrics and grooves that move both body and soul thanks to Parker St. Charles on bass and Max Azarmehr on drums.
