Emerging from Philadelphia’s vibrant music scene, the six-piece psychedelic indie-pop band Plant Sounds have been reinventing the boundaries of their genre since 2016. Joshua Bright’s intuitive vocals and production, along with Levan Danilov’s evocative guitar set the course for the group, followed by the percussive talents of Wesley Paul. This foundation was enhanced by the addition of bassist Luke Blasko, percussionist Eric Cifone, and the multi-instrumentalist and producer Giuseppe Di Cristino. Their innovative songwriting approach is rooted in spontaneity. This has resulted in an outpouring of freestyle-formed tracks, as heard on their debut LP “I’m Sorry”; A raw, organic homage to the improvisational essence of music. The band’s music merges modern production with the warmth of ’60s and ’70s sounds, which they showcased on their acclaimed sophomore album, “Party On // Hari Om” in 2022. Drawing upon influences such as Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, and The Doors, Plant Sounds crafts a soundscape that is both nostalgic and modern. Bright’s warm vocals coupled with the band’s dynamic instrumentals result in an immersive auditory experience, ranging from the ethereal melodies “Black Sea of Trees” to the energetic rhythm of “She Don’t (Bunny Boiler)”. Their unscripted songwriting process, their love for the psychedelic genre, and their dedication to producing captivating music make Plant Sounds a standout act.
